From September 15th to 20th, 24 youth representatives came together as part of the BSSSC Youth Event at the Nordkolleg in Rendsburg to discuss common challenges in the Baltic Sea region. The participants were between 17 and 25 years old and came from Norway, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, Lithuania and Germany. During the event, the young people were able to exchange views on resilient societies and the impact of and fight against fake news and then discuss their findings with political decision-makers.

This time, the BSSSC Youth Event was hosted in Schleswig-Holstein and took place at the Nordkolleg in Rendsburg, surrounded by idyllic nature. After an initial informal get-together over dinner, the participants were able to get to know each other through various activities. In addition to the cultural and content-related exchange, the young people took part in workshops on fake news and democracy, argumentation and rhetoric as well as resilience and resilient societies.

These workshops served as content preparation for the BSSSC Annual Conference, through which the young people were able to share their results with decision-makers at the end of the event. A rally in Rendsburg and a visit to the Unified Sports basketball team provided plenty of exercise.

On the last day before the conference, there was a visit from Ukraine, which gave the participants the opportunity to learn first-hand about the situation and concerns in Ukraine and to draw conclusions for their involvement in Baltic-Ukrainian relations.

The young people brought all these experiences to the conference and incorporated them into workshops, discussion rounds and a special cool-down talk with the youth representatives.

The discussions and results led to this position paper.
