Lahti Päijät-Häme

Lahti Päijät-Häme region is in Southern Finland and has a population of 205,000. It consists of 10 municipalities: Asikkala, Hartola, Heinola, Hollola, Iitti, Kärkölä, Lahti, Orimattila, Padasjoki and Sysmä. Lahti, the European Green Capital 2021, is the centre of the region.
Lahti Päijät-Häme region has a logistically strategic location. Both the Helsinki metropolitan area as well as the largest airport in Finland are one hour away by train or car.
The region is characterized by lively urban centers and rural areas as well as pleasant residential areas, all a short distance from each other.
The solutions and investments in the Lahti-Päijät-Häme Region made over the recent years relate to circular economy, food industry, electric-powered traffic, clean energy production, wood industry and services. These provide future opportunities for development and growth.
Internationally recognized and growing LUT university ranks among the top 41 universities globally in citations per faculty member, making it the highest-ranked Finnish university in the QS World University Rankings. LUT is also one of the best small universities in the world and in the world’s top 10 in climate action. The number of university students is growing steadily towards the milestone of 10 000 students in 2030.
